The Committees of the Skin of Color Society
Nominating Committee
Purpose:
- To determine candidates for board positions.
Membership Committee:
Purpose:
- To accept from the Secretary application forms from prospective Society members, review these applications and recommend to the Board of Directors the appropriate disposition for membership.
Scientific Meetings Committee
Purpose:
- To organize and execute a biannual Skin of Color Society Scientific Session prior to the American Academy of Dermatology annual meeting.
- To promote the education of physicians, residents, and non-physician scientists in the unique properties, reaction patterns, and diseases that occur in individuals with skin of color, by encouraging courses in skin of color and other related topics at scientific meetings and dermatology training programs.
- To inform Society members of meetings with subjects pertaining to skin of color.
- To promote the exchange of information and ideas concerning skin of color.
Scientific Publication Committee
Purpose:
- To increase the body of dermatological literature concerning skin of color by encouraging submission
of works by Society members and others to national and international journals.
- To promote exchange of published information concerning skin of color through the creation of a
twice yearly Society publication.
Research Committee
Purpose:
- To advance scientific study and promote investigational research of skin of color in the
basic sciences, as well as in the clinical, surgical and cosmetic areas.
- To compile a database of Society members interested in conducting research.
- To form liaisons with industry to promote research on issues related to skin of color.
National and International Committee
Purpose:
- To provide a liaison between international (African, Asian, Caribbean, South, Central and
Latin America and national organizations interested in skin of color (NMA and others).
- To support attendance at international meetings.
Professional Development Committee
Purpose:
- To provide collaborative opportunities for established members and mentoring opportunities
for younger members and individuals interested in the field of skin of color.
- To assist in the academic advancement and recognition of Society members in their
professional and local communities.
Patient Education Committee
Purpose:
- To provide educational materials for individuals with skin of color.
