Honolulu, HI – July 29, 2019

Synopsis of meeting: 

The Skin of Color Society held a networking and educational event at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu, Hawaii during the 124th Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly of the National Medical Association (NMA). The event provided 65 members, dermatologists, residents and other guests a chance to enjoy networking, education and a historical venue. The event was attended by members of SOCS, NMA, and the Hawaii Dermatological Society were in attendance, as was the president of the American Academy of Dermatology, Dr. George J. Hruza.

Participants began the meeting networking and enjoying hors d’oeuvres and dinner pool-side. Drs. Candrice Heath and Donald Glass II welcomed everyone, shared their involvement with SOCS and thanked the Dermatology Section of the NMA and Pfizer. Dr. Chesahna Kindred Weaver,  of the Dermatology Section of the NMA, presented on “African-American Pioneers in Dermatology”. This was an inspiring, historical perspective on the history of African-Americans in the field of dermatology. The presentation was well-received. The evening ended with additional networking.
